about grakay

grakay’ is Grahame and Kaye

In 2003 we relocated from Glen Innes in the northern tablelands of New South Wales. Many years have now passed and there have been changes at ‘grakay’.

We share the property with a myriad of animals, both domestic – chooks, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, peacocks – and wild – including wallabies, deer, carpet snakes, goannas and numerous species of frogs.

Our eldest daughter, Michaela and her son, Lucas, now live on the property. It is an absolute delight to be able to share the daily life of our energetic and ever-enquiring grandson.

We have two rambunctious rotties – Thamani (precious) , and Nzuri (beautiful friend) – who keep us on our toes.

The orchard and garden continue to thrive, and the produce from these keeps me busy making preserves.  These are available for sale in the small gallery attached to the studio.

I also make soaps with tallow from our biodynamically produced beef. Thus no nasties. My family and friends have been using these soaps for several years now and previous allergies to commercial soap have disappeared. One friend has had total body radiation. Her specialist cannot believe the beautiful condition of her skin. I think this is a wonderful testament to the product.

I am part of a small local art group: Dala Artists Group. We meet regularly to chat, swap ideas and plan group exhibitions. Our next exhibition ‘little things‘ is planned for early July 2015.

I am continuing to hold workshops at my studio – these are both enjoyable and satisfying.

The abundant fungi and flora found within and around a remnant rainforest creek, which runs through our property, still fascinates me. I keep exploring new ways to use their features and colours on my pots.

‘grakay’ remains a place of wonder and tranquility – still a place to inspire and create!
