Glazing pots and packing the kiln usually takes a good half day.

Firing will take from 18 to 36 hours depending on various factors, including weather, packing, stoking etc. Shifts of 2–3 people are usually organised for the overnight firing.

Cost includes materials for glazes and firing and some meals.

Workshop place must be booked and paid for before attending (see booking details).

accommodation and food

There is plenty of room to camp, just bring your own gear. Shower and toilet facilities available.

A bunk house is also available at Crystal Waters (only 5 km away) with all facilities including kitchen.

Lots of accommodation is available in Maleny and it's surrounds, 20 to 30 minutes travel from ‘grakay’.

BBQ/pizza dinner will be provided on the first day. Tea and coffee provided for the duration of workshop. Please bring any other food you may need or want. BBQ available for use. Pizza 'cob' oven on site.

During the workshop you will

  • apply glazes to the interior and slips to the exterior, of your own pots
  • assist in packing the kiln
  • assist in firing the kiln
  • learn to introduce soda into the kiln

requirements

Please bring the following with you:

  • your own bisqued or bone dry raw pots made from stoneware or porcelain clay
  • minimum of three pieces up to 30 x 30 x 30 cm (size and number of pots actually fired will be determined by numbers attending the workshop).
