two day raku & pit firing

Day one – students attending this workshop helped in the construction and packing of the 'pit'. The pit was fired with timber gathered locally. The firing commenced mid-afternoon and proceeded into the night.

Day two – raku pots were glazed and fired, and the pit was unpacked after lunch.

Innovative techniques were used to achieve spontaneous and unique effects.

the pit was set on fire during the evening of the first day after lighting, the pit is covered to encourage slow burning a pot near the top of the burning pit catching a glimpse of the fire & a pot through the air holes replace the lid and let 'er cook for a while

some mulled wine to keep us going into the night stoking after dark, lifting the lid to add more logs to the fire adding fuel to the fire ... sparks fly after new logs are thrown in the next morning, we sneak a peak into the still warm pit
