pottery

Various clays, including fine translucent porcelain to rugged stoneware, are used.

Fine colloidal slips are applied onto freshly thrown or leather hard pots. When bone dry the interiors are glazed and pieces are then once fired in a wood-fired, long throat, bourry box kiln to 1300°C.

During the firing, soda (sodium carbonate) is introduced into the kiln where it reacts with the clay and slips to form a glaze. Because of the nature of the making and firing, every piece is individual (eg, mugs can be similar but no two are exactly the same).
