grakay
raku & pit firing workshop
Are you interested in our upcoming 2-day workshop – raku & pit-firing – using new & innovative reduction methods for special effects.
welcome to grakay!
'grakay' is both the pottery and our bio-dynamic farm.
We are located in Sunshine
Coast hinterland near Conondale/Maleny (in South East Queensland,
Australia).
Kaye is the potter, Grahame is tech support for kiln building, firing etc
My work is mostly porcelain, soda-glazed and wood-fired; individual functional and decorative works.
I have also been hand-building large, 'story' pots, with whimsical drawings and a narrative used to decorate the slipped surface before firing.
Sculptural work and tile pieces, ranging from a single feature tile to a serving tray to a large ground mural, with various finishes and types of firing, are other examples of my work. My sculptural work has taken a new direction and dimension. I am using soft tiles or slabs to form 'patchwork' This patchwork is then formed into pots, varying from a single tile to bowls to teapots. All are one-off individual pieces.
Kiln formed one-off glass pieces and jewellery continue to be an interest.
Individuals and Galleries Australia wide, including, in QLD; Brisbane, the Sunshine coast, the Gold Coast and Northern QLD, the New England and other regions of NSW, the ACT, Stanthorpe Regional Gallery and the Australian National University, have acquired my work.

You'll find more pictures of my work in the gallery.
As a working artist, I take commissions and hold workshops for small groups. You can contact me about commissions and workshops.
I hold workshops at my studio on our farm or at other venues when we don't need direct access to a kiln. Workshops for different ages and experiences, from children to seniors, are available. Some are detailed here workshops
